My return to Rav Daum after a long break

Recently I returned to study again with Rav Daum after a long break of a little over a year.

I started studying with Rav Daum in the end of 2014. I had a long journey behind me of soul searching and

longing to become Jewish. Finally in 2014 I made the decision to start giyur and Rav Daum was so kind to

accept me as one of his students. Rav Daum taught me to read Hebrew and had a lot of patience with me.

We discussed Shabbat and Kashrut.

Giyur is not a process to take lightly. Even though I started well prepared I did feel the need for a thinking

pause. It was so important for me to have everything in perspective. Eventually there was no way around

the fact that giyur is the only way for me. Its like a indescribable force that pulls me toward it. It is all that I

am and all that I want to be.

I reached out to Rav Daum after my thinking pause and was extremely happy and emotional that he

accepted me back. It feels like I got a family member back and I am not letting go this time.

At this moment we started reading Siddur again one hour a week. My Hebrew is nowhere near where it

should be, but with small baby steps we are getting closer every week. The second hour we spend on

halacha. There is still so much to do and so much to learn. Rav Daum explains everything very

understandable and has a lot of knowledge to give. I am looking forward to our lessons in the future and

hopefully and good ending to my giyur process.
