Open Letter to Rabbi Ahron Daum, of special interest Surinam people of Jewish descent who wish to undergo Giur.

Dear Rabbi Daum,

It is a great privilege to be taught by you, to prepare me for my giur. It was always my desire to belong to the Jewish people with the same intention as Ruth who said “Your people are my people” and “Your G-d is my G-d” Baruch Hashem, may I live amongst G-d’s people.

In Holland it is impossible to become Jewish because of the very repressive and controversial policy of the Dutch rabbinate towards giur in general. The problem is especially severe for people like me who are of Surinam or Antillean descent. Like many other Surinam and Antillean people I probably have Jewish roots. I am aware of it through oral tradition, but have no documental proof. For this reason we are not taken seriously by the Dutch Rabbinate.

Despite the many disappointments and obstacles I never gave up hope. I discovered another way when I came into contact with Rabbi Ahron Daum and his wife Rebbetzin Francine. They are passionate about their work which I think suits them. My experience with Rabbi Ahron Daum is very special, he is a specialist in guiding people towards Judaism, he is a patient teacher. I have learned a lot in the short time I have been with him. My lessons with him have proven to be a worthwhile investment for the future.

Judaism has a lot to offer, a new world has opened up to me! I am grateful to know Rabbi Ahron Daum.

I had lost my trust in people but because of my contact with Rabbi Daum, my trust in people has been restored again. Baruch Hashem!

Rabbi Ahron Daum I want to thank you and your wife for your efforts and welcoming love.
